That doesn’t feel angelic or ghostly. That feels like “spriting noob discovers the ctrl+I feature and goes bonkers”.
XD yeah, definantly looks noobish. Hey dazz, ive been meaning to ask you,
would you be interested in helping with some sprites for my fangame (SFA2D)?
I need enemies the most right now, i figured since you like the abstract design of the spacepirates maybe youd be willing to help with the enemies/bosses in my game. PM me or post in my topic if your interested.
um…that doesn’t…belong…here…at all…ever…you should pm dazzy about it, or put in your own topic.
anyways…um…oh yeah, the picture that looked like neon lights…
inverting looks cool at first, but in the end, it only looks cool for a few things, such as an inverted effect (many games use this, such as castlevania: DS, resident evil 3, etc. )
a ghost look can be started with an okay outline, but in the end, it ussually has to be changed a lot, or use multiple sprites to get the feeling sometimes, but then again, outlines still are good when blending (without outer pillow shade of course)
Ah, i thought that the outline made it look a little to solid. And hairy, i see what you mean, but that’s not the kind of spectral look im going for. But im assuming the main problem right now is the outline.
And strangly enough, i take a liking to concept art. It’s hard to get ingame screenshots, so i usually use the official art. If i could get some good angle shots (know any good sites for the prime games??), id really like to do some of the ingame creatures.

Here’s a start.
But better yet, I have a source who can rip the models straight from the game in a variety of angles and poses. That’s what we’re using for reference on P2D for many things. For the rest we just examine the ingame ones as closely as we can.
All i can say is…Wow.
i actually switched the pallete around in photoshop, tyvm! XD
btw,
looks good!
I added legs to the ghost, but i dont think it looks right for some reason i dont feel the shading on the legs matches the body.
Edit: I one arm, and the weird antennae. I think the shading on the arm is a little sloppy though.
the legs look a little too skinny. also, i can see what you mean with the shading not matching the body, but, i cant tell whats wrong.
Hmm… Maybe it’s because the waist it so small? If it were wider the legs wouldn’t have to look bent like this: /\ They’d be more natural and straight.
Ah, i can fix that. Actually, Chozo ghosts have a weird joint that attaches the leg to the pelvis. I just didnt want to bother adding it, because i didnt think it’d be necessary.
Ah, here we go. The one in the red box has the fixed legs. If you look at the picture, you can see the joint. Hopefully, i made it visible enough. You may also notice that the chozo in the concept art is darker than mine. That was because i was going for an ingame look, with the concept art style. I still dont think it looks spectral enough, so tell me what i can do with the colors/outline.
Hmm… Yeah, the legs are definately better now. But how about the feet? Isn’t it supposed to have two front toes and one back one?
About the colors, it would make it more spectral if it was partially transparent, but you can’t do that and have a background to see through like this, so… I think it looks fine otherwise.
Yeah (wishes he had photoshop) !!! Oh wait. I have photoshop at my school comp. I might be able to flash drive the file, and fix it there.
Anyway, the back toe was just me missing a detail. I’ll fix that too. And hopefuly add the other arm.
anorexia nervosa ?
i know ghosts dont eat but…sheesh!
You could try something like this:
![]()
…invisible dithering effect?
if so, i dont really prefer that effect, but maybe i just am not good at using it…
…if not…sorry, im an idiot…
Hmmm… invisible dithering. I’ve seen it once before (LITOJ’s trace sprites), but i dont think it’s the solution to the problem. Im trying to give it a spectral glow, not a transparent ghostly look. But i guess it looks fine as it is. I’ll just worry about adding more poses for now.
Anorexia Nervosa??? I i think my ghost is pretty proportionate, though i could have made the legs spikier.
[Edit]
Here was my entry for a sprite duel. Im pretty sure i lost, but it was good dithering practice.
Any comments on the ghost?
Finally, 2 complete poses for the ghost. I probably wont do many more, so tell me what you think.
Also, i feel like such a noob. I just discovered the thumbnail option in paint. It makes referencing details so much easier!!
[EDIT]
Can someone enlarge these sprites?
I need these enlargements. Enlarge each sprite seperately.
1.2 (times current size)
1.4
1.8
2.0
2.4
2.6
3.0
Thanks, since i dont have photoshop, i cant resize without distortion. PM them to me.
[Double edit]
Ah, here we are.
Thanks to WOTW, i’ve finished editing the first dark suit sprite. Tell me what you think.
The 2nd to the left is mine. The one on the far right is the original. Regardless, i’ll still give you 50% credit for the final sheet.
