**Build demo topic**

ok, thx!

ideas for grapple: Say ‘screw MP’ and do grapple as it should be, I.E. trhrow stuff around HL2 style, grapple on any surface, and take awesome to new levels.
Seeing as this is unlikely to continue past the demo anymore, do it for. the. lulz.

No.

No? Really?
Aww shucks, I’ll do it myself, then.

How will you duke it out with the Parasite queen? Will you need to move left to right and shoot in the background, with a Queen facing you head-on? Or just a static room where you jump the beam attacks and shoot the boss’ mouth? A level creator with a resource pack would be quite cool to carry on recreating P2D. You could organise competitions and choose the best ones, and… This would boost this forum’s popularity and even more communitarian.

True, level editors are awesome.
What direction will P2D go in? An online puzzler with a level editor would be cool, if slightly less metroidy than the current style…

I’m thinking a recreation of Metroid Prime as a 2D game, but that’s just a hunch. <_<

I believe the PQ battle room will now be static, not dynamic. The PQ sits in the forcefield facing you.

There will be no level editor, or other extra stuff.
I will finish the demo, and then I’m out…

…To do what? It’s quite sad, seeing this project only getting as far as the first boss. Giving the source code away would result in a multitude of possibilities: you could recreate not only Prime, but Prime 2 and 3 (a few tweaks and relative programming knowledge might be required). Anyway, you don’t need to give your graphic resources away, because there are competent spriters out there. You will see this basic engine evolve into the thing you always wanted it to be, put in the right hands. That’s why, if this project stops here, you should SHARE it. This was already noticed before, but this project is just not open enough.

Yeah, hi, this is still only the demo. CFX, not Destroyer F, is doing the full game. It seems like you don’t realize that.

I thought CFX pulled out?
In any case, I beleive I once said that I would rather eat my own testicles than play whatever bland, self-driven game CFX came out with, so I must stick to my word.
@DF, you have control over the code, so it’s your choice. What are you going to do with it? Pick a compedent coder, give it to them and see if they want to finish it? Don’t just let it rest on your HDD, until you get a new PC and it’s lost forever, that would be a sad end to a great project. (Though I agree that releasing the source perhaps isn’t the bast way to go)

WE HAVE A COMPETENT CODER TO FINISH IT. Just because you don’t like him doesn’t mean we need to find a new one. Sod off already. DF is not finishing it, nor is he releasing the code. If you’re really going to be biased enough to refuse to play a game simply because it was programmed by an arrogant twit, well, your loss, I suppose.

I haven’t heard of CF-X recently. How competent is he? Is HE the sole programmer coding this game? I thought this was only to be a demo, not a full game. What programming languages does this guy know/master? Anyway isn’t McCoy going to help with programming, as he seems to be capable of doing a GIF animator? Coming back to CF-X, has he created anything concrete (physics engine)? What will happen when D-F departs? Will it be CF-X taking over?

Look, I already said a year ago that I’m not making the game past the demo. Why not? The demo is already pushing gamemaker to it’s limits. Making the full game in gamemaker is just foolish and practicly impossible. No matter how good your code is, gamemaker just isn’t fit for huge projects like this.

I’m not releasing the code for following reasons.

  • the engine is highly dependant of p2d resources, and those aren’t open source either.
  • it would take you at least half a year to understand my code, in that time you could have made an engine yourself.
  • I don’t like other people messing with my hard work, or even worse, stealing it and claiming it as their own.

Like it or not, that’s just how it will be.

And CFX is more then competent enough to make the engine for the full game. Trust us on that one. He just has to convince himself to finish it, and there are positive signs lately.

CFX (CoreFusionX, by the way) is competent enough. He’s using C++, I believe, to program the game engine. I’m mainly a Visual Basic programmer, although I know enough C to edit code and add simple functions to DLL’s and have done so a couple times. (It might be nice to note, however, that I have a good enough understanding of computers by now that I could easily learn C/C++, given a litte bit of assistance, especially with creating windows.) Either way, from what I understand, CFX is a pretty self-reliant individual, for lack of a better term, and I’m pretty sure I’m recalling correctly that he will refuse any coding assistance offered to him. Anyway, he doesn’t consider himself as part of the team even though he’s making the whole game engine from scratch.

CFX may well be capable, I don’t contest that, but I’ll stick by my word.
I don’t believe he could do as good a job, though, as someone more… willing to accept criticism.
Yes, I don’t like CFX, that’s true, but that’s not why I doubt he’ll actually manage it.
Gm could probably do it, but that’s another argument for another place.
@Dazzy, I don’t expect DF to finish it, it’s too much, I agree, I’d have pulled out long ago.
I just want to say… don’t hinge on CFX.

Ah, okay DF. So CF-X is reprogramming it in C++, and going to make it better, and carry the project on? Is Corefusion talkative or apathic? I’d be pleased to discuss a few things with him.

Lets make things clear once and for all, CFX was once part of the P2D team, and was the main/lead programmer. He is working on the engine that will be running the full game. Believe me, his programming skills and knowledge of physics are beyond your imagination, if he finishes the job, you will get the best fan game ever made in the history of fan creations. He left the team due to guys who kept hassling him for screenshots, demos and proofs of his work (well at least that’s what I understood). Since then, he has been pretty distant with the forums, although he is very present in the IRC channel, and has worked on other projects. Recently, it appears that he has wanted to finally finish the engine once and for all, for various reasons. He will post the engine once it is done, not before. If you are so desperate to talk to him, log on to the IRC channel, he’s connected most of the time, and I’m sure you’ll be able to ask him some questions.

I’m sorry Alex_Xela, but when I try to go to the IRC Room, there’s a web page error. I wanted to talk to him because at least I’m sure I’ll get direct news/updates from him, as my suggestion of an update section doesn’t seem to have been fruitful. If it’s necessary I’ll PM him.

Guys like me, is that what you’re trying to say? If I ask these things is because I’d like to know good somebody is at programming or spriting, for instance McCoy, as he was coding a GIF maker. Posting sprites is a form of demonstrating your spriting prowess. And I just want to know how the project’s going. Several months without any news of a demo or news is quite unsettling. You will, of course, say that not everybody is always available ALL the time to do the game.

Maybe you should make use of your recruiting forum: RECRUIT people. The last sign of activity on the Spriting RF was in November. You need a bigger team, and a united team. Of course there might be CF-X’s problem of his quite closed working. It will hinder this team, and that really is not needed.

You read my post with the wrong tone. I was not being sarcastic nor was I angry or impatient. There’s no point getting agressive or angry. I am just curious, and want to know more about his work on the game. Either tell me how IRC works or I will PM him (this is not a threat).

Well I wasn’t aggressive or anything, I just made some things clear. As for that quote, I didn’t mean you specifically, but you have to understand, you have to put yourself in his position : imagine you’re working on an amazing engine but you’re working on it at your own steady pace and people keep asking and asking and asking, I really think you would have done the same. As for McCoy, I’ve never said he is not a talented programmer, far from it, but for the time being CFX is working on the engine and that’s that.
As for several months without news etc., you just don’t have to worry about that anymore, the team is now working with much more organisation and things are getting done, trust me. Just take a look at the project’s homepage, the demo will come out during Q1 of 2008!
I agree that the team should be bigger, but right now, everything is working perfectly and coordination is at its best, so making the team bigger now is not essential, it will be once the final demo is out.

I know exactly how you feel, you’re just curious, I was too, and it’s true that talking to CFX directly helps you understand how things work. As for the IRC channel, to be honest, it’s been a whole while since I last went there so it might have closed, in that case you could always try to send him a PM.
I’m sorry for any aggression you might have felt, it was not intended. However, don’t forget the bottom line, CFX is more than competent for his task.
