**Build demo topic**

I never said CFX wasn’t. Anyway, I’m going to see what he’s really like (to the IRC!). Sorry for my impatience, intolerance and general confusion.

This is a weird conversation.

You’ll need an IRC client to chat in IRC, such as Chatzilla (for Firefox) or mIRC. The IRC channel link at the bottom of each page here is never active; we always use the channel #Samus.co.uk on the same server. Be aware that the channel can sometimes be very hostile towards new people, and you may have to convince Kenny in particular that you’re not Timaster. CFX sometimes discusses the engine and what he’s doing with it. Just don’t pester him to release anything.

Yeah, we’re just being too secretive right now. As AleX_XelA said, the team is definitely active and working. Maybe when we get our demo out we’ll open up our progress to the fans more and try to expand the team.

No one’s ever on, tho…
I agree w/ the secretive, you are.

Don’t worry, Troid, that’s not the point of my conversation with CFX. Thx for the link.

Is CF-X using SDL to do the game? Or just Win32 functions?.. No, I didn’t talk to him, not bothered to get mIRC…

Excuse me while I rofl.

Sorry for sounding horribly noobish, but where’s the link to the SCU IRC channel, since nobody shows up on the P2D one?

P2D demo 3.1 is out!
http://www.metroidprime2d.co.uk/downloads/21/mp2d_31.zip

This is my last and final demo. I’ve decided to quit with the p2d project. I’m no longer taking the lead programmer task upon me.

Yes, this moment had to come one day. After more then 3 years, I have to quit with it.
I can not keep up with the quality level that’s required, it’s too much work in gamemaker. Also, support is again at a very low level, I know, hollidays, school and stuff. Fact is, low support has always been a problem.
There was a burst of progress last month, but that flame went out again. Not to mention we lost support of one of our core members (Slothien483).
Yes, the demo was nearing completion, but there’s still simple too much work to be done, and I don’t see myself finishing it.

Yea, I know you’ll all hate me now for making this decision, but it’s time to move on.
I’m very sorry I coudn’t finish it, and I know a lot of the team members will be very dissapointed. But it’s a decision I had to make soon or later.

It’s up to CFX now, or anyone else that’s willing to make an engine (NOT in gamemaker).

The game engine made in gamemaker will not be released in public, so don’t bother asking.
The resources might be, ask the creators.

If you guys really want to see p2d become reality, make this a fully open source project. Make the engine in java, c# or another decent programming language.
Or perhaps it’s time to give this project a final rest, it’s up to you guys to decide.

!!!
D:

I was just about to start up the weekly progress again tomorrow night!

…You’re not even using most of the newest resources?

Really, you should’ve waited for the things to get done that would hardly require any work on your part. No, you should wait, not should’ve. This doesn’t have to be your final demo release.

We have until April Fool’s day to get our demo out in Q1, and here it is… January 19th. Why the rush? Why lose all hope? Most of what the team did in that amazing progress revival hasn’t even been stuck in the game, and a lot of what’s left hardly even requires any work from you.

There are only two things on our to-do list I’ve been concerned about: the PQ and the Pirates. And those were exactly what I was going to address tomorrow night. The PQ’s resources are all done but not the in-game enemy object, while the pirate in-game enemy objects are all done but not the sprites. Getting those done is not your job, and you don’t have to worry about them.

The team worked like crazy for over a month, all the way through the holidays. So what’s so bad about taking three weeks off after that? If they were willing to suddenly start working so hard for P2D before, I have no doubt that they would start again after the little break. Such as, tomorrow night. >_<

I understand, you’ve also put in a lot of time and work into this project and seeing the progress halt again is hard. But it’s been a lot of time and work for all of us, and to see our work tucked away, especially when most of it is all ready to stick right in without much effort, just isn’t fair. And don’t think you have to feel so pressured to keep up with the quality demand of the project–because you ARE keeping up with it.

So please, can you just wait longer? It’s a huge let down for the team to work so hard for nothing.

You talk about low support: that’s malarkey. There’s a whole forum full of members keen to help, and some talented ones. And Slothien483 quit?! What?! You can’t let go of this project yet, there are still things to do before CFX takes over.

You may be the leader of the project DF, but there are still people working on the final demo. And people who would like to too >_<.
People, you can’t let this happen. A poll will need to be started.

salutes
Goodbye, Metroid Prime Two Dimensional, you will be missed.
End of an era, now…
Still, maybe release 3.11, using the newer sprites?

@TB, a poll will do nothing, it’s DF’s code, there, and he isn’t willing to release it, so… GM P2D is over, finished, gone.
Good luck CFX, I hope you manage to do it.

EDIT:Well done, only slightly disappointing.
You seem to have spent far more time on shiny particle effects than honing the gameplay, and it shows, there are various glitches, error messages (Where the hell was my boss battle?) lack of grapple beam (T_T), and the scan visor’s controls are screwy, why the hell does samus still crouch when you press down!?
However, I know you couldn’t really give a damn anymore, so I won’t go into any detail.
Overall, it’s an OK tribute to (one of the?) the greatest games of recent times, and far above fangaming average (not that that means much, mind you).
Well done, ‘Team SCU’

I do give a damn about this project, why else would I have spend so much time in it. Believe me, I feel like shit giving this up, but it’s the only realistic option left.
I understand the anger, but “you don’t give a damn” is the most stupid thing you could possibly say.

BTW I never said this was the official demo, so it’s normal some things are not included, and glitches are still present.

Slothien left because he felt his work was not appreciated. We haven’t had a message from him in a month, so I don’t think he’s comming back.

Troid, I’ll have a good thought about what you said…

Sorry to hear it DF. I would’ve liked to see the finished demo of yours, but if you don’t think GM can do it, you’re probably right.

This doesn’t mean that p2d is dead though, or that the progress that I the rest of us made over the last two months will go to waste…

You will stick around here though, DF? If not for just maintaining the site?

Oh, no, DF, I’m not angry at all, you misunderstand me.
You ‘couldn’t give a damn’ about the bugs, because it’s not your job to fix them anymore, I certainly don’t blame you for it, being a programmer myself.
(Hell, how could I ever be angry at you for somthing programming related? The only reason I started was because P2D inspired me, and you’re the lead coder on it!)

So no, I’m not angry. Sad? Yes, P2D was a great thing just to exist.
However, if that’s not the official demo, does that mean there will not be one using the current GM engine?

On the ‘GM can’t do it’ thing, GM can do it, if you’re clever with resources, but… well, it’s your choice, I would have given up long ago (and probably wouldn’t have been brave enough to take the role anyway), so, don’t feel bad that you didn’t quite do it, feel good that you made it further than any metroid fangame has before.

EDIT: No one’s ever in the IRC…

I really can’t see this project die, but it eventually was going to if the standards for the game were this high.

DF, since you’re not going to continue this in GM anymore, perhaps PY and I can program/sprite for P2D? I understand you’re not willing to give away the engine - but if you lower the programming and graphics standards by a notch, we can continue progress again. Then when the game is complete, we can go back and tweak everything up to become high quality again.

Give people a chance - if you expect to create a Metroid Prime exact 2D replica by yourself, you won’t get anywhere. Anyway, if you decide to let us work on P2D, give us a PM.

P2D is what inspired me to start programming with Gamemaker and sprite. I can understand you quitting, but it’s really unfair to bring the project down with you.

>_<

P2D IS NOT DEAD.

Seriously. Get over it, guys. 072’s right.

It will be if we don’t find a new demo programmer until CFX puts out… otherwise we’ll lose interest in the meantime.

Man, I’d certainly give you all my assistance, but coding physics engines is the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do. GameMaker handles it well on its own, but I’m not a GameMaker programmer, either. So I’m sorry to say you won’t be getting coding help from me, unless someone else decides to make the engine and would like me to help with creating utilities.

I’d encourage the team to use TIVNav if DF is leaving. We would also actually recruit people this time.

Recruitment would be good.
But, what’s TIVNav?
