Restaurants have to treat their customers well too, or else they won’t come back to pay for more food.
We aren’t going to kick people out for eating with the wrong hand. We’ll kick them out for throwing soup at other customers.
Again. If you can’t handle that, leave. We are not a government. We do our best to remain impartial and do things in the interest of the community, but we’re human. 072 screwed up, but that does not mean we need to write The P2D Manifesto.
CMC, Rundas45, Zurginator (where’s my 3 cookies?) Also, while its good to have a democracy, most people wouldn’t take any action, and people could get away with crazy shiza. (german for shit)
It would be anarchy. We need people in charge. Just live with it. It’s not gonna change.
Zurginator isn’t a team member, CMC is currently working on a private project with Rundas.
Daz, a key difference is that while the restaurant belongs to the owner, and he bears the brunt of his own mistakes, P2D doesn’t belong to anybody in a strict sense. There are hundreds of contributors, and it’s passed hands too many times for you to be able to say that you can do whatever you like with it. If it was really yours to do whatever you want with, then sure, you can do what you want and if it doesn’t work then that’s your own damn problem. But right now your goal should be to try and finish the project, and that means creating a welcoming atmosphere and bridging the admin-member gap as well as possible.
In addition, that’s simply not true, as has been shown quite adeptly with me and Zurg.
Also, I don’t want to leave, but I certainly would if I had any interest in being on the team and helping the project. Luckily, the reason I come here hasn’t been P2D for a long time.
Um…Shit in German is Scheisse (not sure if that’s spelled correctly. Might not be a “c” in there…)…Just, uh, throwing that out there. And the only reason I know that is because my German teacher told us this time where she accidentally mispronounced “fooling around” and said “Shitting around” when she taught in Germany. It was an interesting story, one my high school peers found entertaining enough to mimic, much to her displeasure.
Whoops, I just noticed that you and I probably just have different spellings, Ashes. I could see how someone could misspell Scheisse upon hearing it. But I know that it is not spelled with a “z”. Just an FYI.
Also, last I checked (although the rules are being changed), profanity is not against the rules, as long as it is controlled and not in excess. But Daz already covered that. Bah, whatever.
Call me immature, but when Dazzy said premises, I thought he said penises >_>
I’m glad to see Zurg’s Barrackoli face back, and glad to…see him back…
And I had no idea about the profanity rule. That should be changed. However, I will not argue with another opinion. I just think freedom of speech should apply to profanity as well. >_>
But that also backfires in many ways, so my only reason to back that up is that having a restriction on your own language when you want to say something is quite pressuring.
Let me put it this way - the things we cannot change about P2D, particularly the team structure, are best fitted by a system like a democratic republic, not a restaurant.
There is no reason for this place to be a democracy, be it now or in the future.
Hmmm… I have two theories right now.
A) You’re pissed that you got demoted from moderator position, and as a result want other mods to lose power as well.
B) You’re, what, 15? 16 now? Perhaps you’re just hitting the typical adolescent rebellious stage, and thought you’d target a forum administration instead of your parents for some reason.
Oh you’re clever. If I was pissed about being demoted from moderator, I’d probably actually be intent on taking care of P2D.
But you’re spot on for #2. Although I’m 17.
Reasons for this place being a democracy:
The moderators’ detachment makes the joining process daunting for newcomers.
The moderators are largely absent. With democracy, the amount of governing that takes place will be roughly proportional to the number of members present.
The chief concern of the forums is, like I keep saying, to generate interest in the project. Democracy is an appealing concept, and unique as far as online forums go.
Democracy is appealing to more people than dead whales are appealing to, I’d reckon, and the reason it’s unique is because it takes a lot of work to set in motion as compared to a dictatorship. The way invisionfree looks at forum ownership makes dictatorships impossible to overthrow. All you have to do is start a forum and you already have absolute power.
the US government thing makes more sense to me. The US government doesn’t step in until something’s wrong or you skip on your taxes or something. Same with invision, except skipping your taxes is more like posting porn links.
