Personally, I don’t think the name is all that bad, but Daz and I talked, and we both agree that this will kill Nintendo’s sales, and make people be like “HAH, WEE?”
It’s a really bad move… I hope they change it, but only for their own sake. If they don’t, that’s their fault and problem.
Yeah, well, I still feel like scraping of Wii on the side of the system, and putting ‘revolution’ there instead. And hacking the startup script so it says ‘ReVoLuTiOn’, or "Wii all fuckin’ hate you…’
And ripping off the part of the cover that will say ‘Wii’
And instead of being able to call games something like “Super Smash Brothers Revolution”, It’s gonna be “Super Smash Bros Wii”

If people were going to buy the Revo, they still will. However, Sony and Microsoft fanboys will no doubt never let us here the end of it.

Shock? What shock? There’s no shock, Nintendo. We all see it for the truth - YOU HAVE UNDERMINED A NAME AND FACE YOU HAVE GIVEN TO YOUR OWN PRODUCT. We’ve been using the name for over a year. Don’t you realize basic marketing tactics?! You need a name people will mentally assign to your product, one that sticks in their mind. Revolution was good. We all started thinking of your new console as the revolution.
Then you went and changed it.
Do you KNOW how many lost sales this will cost?!! People who heard of the Revolution in passing will pass the “Wii” on the shelves and think “huh?”, then walk away without buying it, because they had never heard of the change of name and think you’ve dropped the Revolution!
Not only have you ruined your own marketing, you’ve given it a name that is one, hard to say in Japanese, will be ridiculed by Western gamers and most likely the rest of the world, and will confuse to no end people who never heard of the change!
THE FIRST THING YOU LEARN WHEN MARKETING A PRODUCT IS TO GIVE IT A NAME AND AN IMAGE, AND NEVER CHANGE IT!! What are you THINKING?!

If Nintendo wants to screw over its last remaining fan base its fine with me. Hell, even IF Nintendo goes belly up, Metroid will still be ok, right? If this site is any evidence, Metroid, and maybe some other Nintendo games, might still live on because of the fans.
On the other hand, Nintendo might release it and brainwash everyone. Soon, there will be lines of people marching down city streets with flags bearing the name Nintendo on them. Before you know it, they’ll be saying: “Hagel zu Nintendo! Wiii!”
