Redhalberd's Shwag

Ok, I understand.

In otherwords don’t command people when you don’t have that kind of authority, but try to keep the peace.

Yeah, Red, just keep working on those sprites and people will start watching.

Thanks, i will.

The minimodding doesnt actually botherme that much. Smartdude isnt very intimidating ^_-

Anyway, at the moment, im coloring the legs. I but i still have no idea how to give the shoulders more depth at the current angle.

Any suggestions??

@Gold leader: Also, i prefer edits over custom when doing metroid sprites. Its a universal style that’s more likely to get used in comics/games etc…

Don’t those shoulder pieces move back and forth in the running animation with SM sprites? That means that you could squish it and add some area to one side so that looks like its moving. Ok, it’s going to be hard to describe, so if this fails I’ll just illustrate it:

(0 O 0)

(Ok, that is kind of vague, but look at the shape. See how the ball shrinks somewhat and part of the front or back side is showing?)

Actually, i think that’s a very good idea. I was wondering how i’d make them move (i avoided it with the weavel sprites).

Anyway, minor update. First 3 running poses are complete.

I’ll see how i can do the shoulder movement, and hopefully, it’ll also fix the depth problem.

Whoah, she’s got major back problems. Samus should NOT lean that far >_>

Err… I think thats her sholder <_<;

alright, alright, im an asshole i get it.

anyways,i would finish the upper body before legs, right now you are close to getting it.

Yeah, i noticed that, but i wanted here head to be more visible.

One of my earlier posts was asking about that. The one on the far right inside the red box. Is that about right??(i dont mean to bitch, but) Mabye if i had gotten some actual replies to my previous questions, it wouldnt have been a problem.

Nonetheless, i’ll change them all to that position.

Steve died…sobsob

Yes, I know it’s just her shoulder, but it’s too far back.

i cant believe that…i mean…well…i didn’t expect him to die of old age but…yaknow…

Finally, a productive update. I’ve finished the running animation, though this definetly isnt final version. I still need to add the lights adjacent to the kneecap, and other little details. But other than that, i think it’s looking decent.

Heres the sprite sheet so far. As you all know by now, they’re super metroid edits. I’d do custom, but i dont really have aptitude for it, plus this style is better for casual use by the masses.

BTW, i still havent animated the shoulders yet.

the hand on the gun looks like a mitten.

lol samus doesnt wanna get her hands cold.

Whoa! The Dark Suit look cool still needs alot of work as for me as a spriter, school has taking to much of my time on the computer.

Yeah, i kinda noticed that. I’ll see how i can fix it. Anyway, the little light on samus’s upper leg looks kinda weird in the animation. I’ll try to fix that up as well.

Edit:
My entry for a sprite duel. Deoxys.

Coughbumpcough

I need practice in dithering an antialiasing after my last sprite duel (it’s not over yet, but im winning in votes). I did something quick, watuuthink??

With that anti-aliasing you won’t be able to stick it on a non-white background. That and the thick border make it seem really cartoony. Just pointing those out, they could be intentional.

Also, try to think of each dithered section as a separate color (since that’s what it looks like zoomed out)–right now there isn’t much of the neutral gray color showing and too much of the lighter area. That’s what I think at least.

I was messing around for practice so i guess anti aliasing the outer edges was intentional. The thick border was also kinda intentional (I like the cartoony look).

I see what you mean about the dithering though. I’ll try to do better in my next experiment.

[Edit] tried fixing the shades balance issues.

Also, a dithered boo, kinda king boo, but didnt add the crown.

Personally, i think it’s terrible, but tell me what you think anyway.

the boo looks kind of cartoony, but i like it =)

anyway, if you want to practice antialiasing, it should always be done in the sprite internally, not on the outlines.

Yeah, i’ve been sprite dueling lately, and since it’s only one sprite, i havent woried about it.

[Edit]

Some more dithering/antialiasing schufftz. It’s kinda an arm. Looking at muscles has always been a good way for me to see shading, so i decided to try it for myself.
