It’s called the Grapple Lasso now.
Which is a gay as hell name.
The Power Suit’s also called an Armor Suit now.

But the on-foot portions are third person shooters. And they suck.
No, the grapple lasso is a seperate powerup. It’s the one you get first that yanks of shields.
I can agree with ALOT of the stuff Timmeh said.
The Boss reusage wasn’t too bad, because Berserker lords are part of the pirate army, and seeing them only once would be really weird. The one in Skytown felt random, but the Knight in Thorn Jungle, and the Knight on the pirate homeworld felt like nice additions.
Skytown sorta was the most “metroid” as far as gameplay, but there were practically NO enemies. The firefights were satisfying, and puzzles and bosses were frequent enough to keep it intersting.
Phaazoids SUCKED. I hate them so bad. They were incredibly pointless, didn’t feel canon at all, and did WAAAAAAAAAAY to much damage.
I never thought about Area attacks, but I didn’t feel it was irritating OTHER than Omega Ridley.
Hyper Mode was actually a really cool addition, OTHER than the fucking phazoids. I felt it added alot of gameplay that wouldn’t have been there otherwise.
The powerups were actually pretty good in the game generally, though it’s true that they weren’t used enough.
But I felt the plasma beam, Grapple upgrades, Ship grapple, Nova Beam, Xray visor, and Hyper Missles were really cool.
The Nova beam was awsome, probably my favorite weapon. I admit that the Hyper missles were pretty useless, but they felt pretty necessary.
The ship grapple was really cool, and felt very metroid. The nova beam in conjunction with the Xray visor was really cool, specially one hit KO’s on Commandoes, Berserkers, and Metroid hatchers.
Anyway, like I’ve said, teh Linearity didn’t bother me at all. I was never a big fan of FREE exploration, because I’m always afraid of missing stuff.
The Phaazoids are the only part of the game that felt flawed. Oh, and the lame ass story.
I haven’t finished it yet (I’m English, I promise!), I’m only up to the ship-grapple, and I think overall, it’s awesome.
Not very metroidy though, I don’t think I’ve done an ounce of propper exploration, though skytown has come close.
The grapple lasso is very cool, very very cool indeed, I love it’s mechanics.
Just pressing A, then releasing it would be way less fun than it is now.
Hyper ball is gunship! It is totally useless, and wipes out your PED tank, I much prefer the hypermode hyperbeam to it, even against steambots.
Ship missiles are great, and seeing the beserker knight fall in one hit was lovely! Still not metroidy, though.
Why does every boss/miniboss have a quake attack? The one in MP1 was fine, there were only about 10 of those pirates anyway, but why now does everyone have it?
I mean, Ghor!? Why on earth did he have one, he attacked with his plasma beam, and armoursuit.
The ‘interactive’ bits, like soldering circuits with the plasma beam, and twisting, turning, pulling and pushing things is extreamly well done, and really adds to the atmosphere.
Also, I can taste a fetch quest, don’t tell me if there is one, but I can taste one, from the ‘energy cells’.
The energy wave thing really annoyed me too.
EVERY fucking boss has an energy wave attack, or some stupid attack that you’ll have to double jump over.
Halo?!? what the fuck? try oh i dunno Bioshock or Call of Duty. jebuth what the hell are you talking about halo was linear metroid and the games i mentioned tend to not be
Why would you use it against steambots? You’re supposed to use plasma or boostball on those. >_>
Also, the hyper bal is incredibly powerful against some things. It annihilates Metroids, and it’s a great way to damage some bosses.
One can say this wasn’t very Metroidy, but I still enjoyed he game. Many of the things Timaster said I agree with. The Phazoids were annoying, and the fact that every boss had a freaking wave/ splash attack was annoying aswell. Also, I’m pretty sure most bosses had a type of “uber turn laser” attack and the infamous “Spin Attack” move. I can see this being done once or twice, but every single boss did it, and it then seemed like the boses were the same, just different models but have the same attacks.
Hyper Mode was a very nice addition to the game IMO, but had it’s drawbacks. I understand Hyper Mode was there to take out groups of enemies at the cost of losing energy, which makes sense, but one thing annoyed the heck out of me. Missiles. Yep, missiles were pretty much useless. The beam weapons were pretty weak against a lot of the stronger enemies, and so you would think missiles would make up for that. Instead, missiles just deflect off the enemy or they are dodged/ reflected. Even the Hyper Missiles had this same problem. They just feel useless, because the beam seems like a more efficient way to kill in nearly every situation. It ticked me off, because when fighting Dark Samus and other bosses, they all just deflected my missiles, and it really got old.
Yeah, the missles and Hyper missles sorta sucked. But the seeker missle launcher is actually sorta usefull if you use it. You can K.O. certain enemies if you hit them with all 5 missles, even on Hypermode.
But even then, the seeker missle was pretty useless. Overall, it was really annoying, because you really wanted to use Missles, but they didn’t work.
And the bosses attacks were all really generic.
Shockwave
Spin attack
Charging attack
Uber Beam
floating homing energy balls
homing ground energy thingy magiggy
Honestly, thats pretty much all ANY of the bosses did.
Rundas was the best boss in the game period. They did EVERYTHING perfectly if you ask me. The berserker lord was really cool the first time around as well. It had distinct moves that actually felt original.
Mogenar just felt too huge and overdone. He was too hard to hit, and really wasn’t very satisfying. Helios was better, but he didn’t even feel like a major boss. Rundas felt more epic. Omega ridley was realy epic, but his moves weren’t original. He was alot like Ridley from MP1, and the rest of the moves were recycled from other bosses.
Don’t get me started on Aurora Unit 313.
Just completed MP3 its easy and owsome at the same time, though the last boss was to easy for me. But over all it was owsome.
One of the bets games on Wii. ![]()
Fight him on Hyper mode before you say he was easy. ;__;
It’s taken me at least ten tries…
Exactly what Daz said. I’ve had more problems than just dying on the last boss on Hyper Mode. Gandrayda was a total Bitch. So was Omega Ridley. I knew their attack patterns, it just took so long to kill them. Seriously, try Hyper Mode. It will humble your experience with easiness very quickly.
Yeah, all of the bosses are harder, though I beat Gandrayda on my first try, and Ridley on my second.
You just can’t get lazy, and you HAVE to shoot projectiles to get health back. On normal mode, I kicked back because I had so much life it didn’t matter If I go hit.
But on hypermode, you can’t make big mistakes and get comboed.
I still haven’t beaten Aurora unit 313 on hyper mode, though this’ll be my 3rd try.
Ugh, good luck with that. I can beat Dark Samus with no problem now, and usually the first form of the Aurora thanks to defensive health-pickup-whoring, but the head’s lack of healing is KILLING me. I never get a chance to hit it, and the spinning lasers are massive damage and very hard to dodge.
Yeah, I was able to beat Ridley on my First try, and Gandrayda on my Third, I think. Looking back on it, I probably could’ve beat her on the second try, but I got lazy, until I realized it was too late. Yeah, if its your first time on Phaaze on Hyper Mode, get ready for Hell when it comes to the boss battle. I can beat Dark Samus, but I have so much corruption when I finish that I just run outta power on 313’s first form. I’m gonna try again tomorrow, when my head is clear. Hopefully, I might actually get to the floating 313.
Make sure to kill the Echoes asap while fighting DS, and use uncharged shots. When they heal, go X-ray, take out the echoes first, charge to draw in the health they drop, and then hit the healing DS with the charge shot, going back to the combat visor while the shot is firing. Break pillars immediately, and charge whenever she’s got her shield up, to draw in any and all phazon units. Playing defensively like this makes Dark Samus pretty damn easy.
As for Aurora, the first form goes down slowly but steadily if you make sure to always destroy both tentacles before attacking, then drawing in the powerups with a charge while he shoots his giant laser. Kill the Echoes and Rinkas with uncharged shots, of course. Make sure you’re well-healed before you finish him off–even if that means leaving him with a miniscule life bar remaining on purpose, then spending the next five or so rounds just healing up. Since you can’t heal at all after the next round starts, it WILL mean the difference between victory and death.
Thanks for the tip. I didn’t know you could use the X-ray visor on the fake DSs. That should help.
You can tell them apart even without it–DS’s glowing blue is replaced by a dull red on the Echoes.
But it’s easier with the visor from a distance.
Edit: Beat them! That wasn’t so bad at all. I beat DS with about 0.0001% corruption, then healed to about 10% before beating AU1, allowing the health that spawns at start to bring me to 0…
…
And then hardly ever got hit, after learning a very valuable trick.
HYPER MISSILES. Hit the glowing purple spot with a hyper missile during the spinning charge attack to stun him for quite a long time. I took off about half his health in one ‘stun period’. It can be kinda hard to hit, though, and if you focus too much on aiming he’ll maul you by ramming you repeatedly… >_>;
I tried again today, without success.
I made it up to AU’s 2nd form and got him down to about 50% health.
As far as fighting dark samus, I recommend being extremely aggressive as opposed to defensive. Fight smart however. You can spend time shooting the pillars, though I didn’t (and probabaly should have), but you can keep your life low just by shooting the projectiles DS fires.
I found the charged phazon beam to be more effective than the single shots. Charge it while you’re dodging DS’s attacks, and let it loose on her to inflict decent damage. And hold the Wiimote still so that they ALL hit her. It’s really all about learning to dodge DS’s attacks. To dodge the spray attack, hide behind pillars, but if they aren’t there, you jsut have to watch, and either jump over it or strafe it.
When DS creates the dark echoes, I was able to ignore them early on without taking damage, but later, they get more aggressive. If you shoot the Dark Echo the SECOND she spawns it, it’ll die immediately, but don’t waste too much time, and only use the X-ray visor when Dark Echoes are present, because DS’s attacks are less obvious when you’re using it.
Whenever she uses the charge attack and dark echoes are present, screw attack just to be safe, because it gets harder to dodge as you go.
Anyway, I’ll take some of that advice on Au1 and 2 to see if I can pull off a win next time.
Uncharged spam shots do more over time than concentrated charge. I’ve tested this extensively.
