Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Samus doesn’t speak.
It’s in first-person.
There’s a power beam.
Samus isn’t in her emergency zero suit throughout the game.
There’s a grapple beam.
It can be used to glide along rails.
There’s a morph ball.
The morphing animations aren’t quite as bad as Prime 2’s.
There’s no multiplayer. I think.
It’s cool how the ship gets upgrades like you do. I can trust Retro enough not to turn that into just a gimmick.
Maybe you’ll be able to jump off a ledge and call your ship to come pick you up like Samus does at the end of Prime <_<
It looks like more of the cutscenes will be in-game (relatively more >_>)
The framerate is still 60
I think I heard that it can be in widescreen
Really, I’ve heard that the controls weren’t as awkward as they were in the E3 demos
According to Goofyman, “the beginning is epic”, but he wouldn’t say anything
There’s a springball
The new tracks in the soundtrack aren’t too bad, even if all the voices sound like MIDI
The voice acting is always there for you to get a good laugh
Nintendo DIDN’T reveal much about the game yet (not like what happened with MP2)
They removed MP2’s spinny menus
The scan visor uses concept art again, not little models
They’re going to clear up the story about phazon
You’ll be able to kill Dark Samus once and for all… hopefully.
There are still large bosses even if there are still a few human-sized ones
No dark world
The physics are fixed (for bridges falling down and stuff–always annoyed me in MP2)

Not all of those are neccesarily good. A few come that come to mind:

It can be used to glide along rails.

The morphing animations aren’t quite as bad as Prime 2’s. ← “Not as bad as ___” doesn’t count as “good”. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s cool how the ship gets upgrades like you do. I can trust Retro enough not to turn that into just a gimmick.

Maybe you’ll be able to jump off a ledge and call your ship to come pick you up like Samus does at the end of Prime <_<

The voice acting is always there for you to get a good laugh. ← I’m really beyond laughter at this point. <_<

…And “No ___”'s don’t count as good things either. >_>

“They removed MP2’s spinny menus
The scan visor uses concept art again, not little models”

But I LIKED both of those. The concept art was lame. :<

I disagree. “No spinny menus” has to be the best thing there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Personally, while I’d love to play Metroid Prime 3, I think this is the first Metroid game I’m going to experience no more of than videos… I hope a speed run comes out very soon after the game’s release.

Lol, I cant imagine just skipping this game.

Anywau, the models were cool, but concept art feels more metroidy. The pause menu in Mp2 felt too much like a pause menu, in mp1, it felt like inside her visor or something.

The spinning menu was sort of a one time thing, but it wasnt bad.

i hated the spinny menus. lol

072 is completely determined to hate every aspect of Prime 3 that he is aware of. Do not bother arguing with him.

I liked spinny menus, it’s much nicer than the usual way, which is kind of generic. MP2 had the coolest fucking menu ever.

you mean mp2?

He said MP2.

Coolest fucking Menu’s ever? Metroid prime had a cooler menu. That whole bacteria thing was badass as hell.

That was the thing that got me when I first got the game. I was like “Woah” owned.

Two new awesome official videos from IGN that prove that Corruption will have the coolest music ever.

And I thought MP2’s menus were more creative.

Edit: Delayed a week…minus 6 days.

I honestly don’t want to hate this game. But if I said ANYTHING about this game looks appealing to me, I would be lying.

Now, I could respect your opinions about this game under normal circumstances, but everyone seems to accept (and welcome with open arms) the fact that this game has ditched most, if not all of its Metroid qualities to appeal to the general gaming audience, NOT the Metroid fans. Can you see why THAT upsets me?

Now, if this wasn’t a Metroid game, but an original FPS for the Wii, I still wouldn’t like it because of the art and what not, but like I said, I would be able to respect the opinions of those who do. But I know what a Metroid game should be like, and worse, Retro Studios knows! So why are they betraying us, and why doesn’t anybody care?

Umm, where’s the site?

O72, I guess I can respect WHY you dislike the game, but I don’t beleive you’re justified in saying that it ditched ANY of the gameplay elements of Prime.

Sure it’s been Haloized as far as looks, and story, but they say that the gameplay is STILL the metroid prime that we all love. YOU havent played it yet. WE haven’t played it yet. But you’re making extremely right wing assumptions, just from what we’ve seen.

I can’t promise it’ll satisfy you, but I can say that there’s more than a shred of Prime 1 in there.

Not “from IGN”. You do have a Wii, right? >_>

072: I’m with you. My list of good things was the result of 10 minutes of digging up videos and scraping out the tiniest things I saw or thought of. I really want a new Metroid game, but it looks like that won’t be happening for a while.

Edit: Red: Gameplay is more than just first-person shooting and item-collecting. Level design, characters, and even story have a big impact on it, and what they’ve done with MP3 makes it seem nothing like MP1’s atmosphere and plot. There may be a shred of it left, but the rest of it just kind of insults that part.

Edit2: Of course we haven’t played it yet… but unless it turns out that Nintendo absolutely fails horribly at advertising and it turns out that all of what they’ve shown us was the very worst of the game and everything else is zomg better…

But do you HONESTLY, want the same atmosphere? Metroid prime 2 didn’t do such a good job of creating a consistent atmosphere. I know that there are some areas that wont feel like Metroid prime, but it STILL is assuming saying that it’s nothing like MP1. Of course, the plot is definetly very different, but I still have faith for variety (which they promised). I think you should just have faith.

I just want the atmosphere of “I’m alone on a huge planet open to exploration with a lot of mysteries that I may or may not figure out eventually” that has been the main focus of every Metroid game except Fusion, Prime 2, and Hunters, the three least-liked games in the series (Not counting Pinball). It’s not like it was getting boring. I don’t like the atmosphere of “I’m being sent to a few really small sections of planets and space stations in a determined order by my bosses and the story, doing some task at each, then moving to the next or a previous one while getting some help from a few people like me”. It’s really not the game I was hoping for, and based on the history of Metroid and my own experiences with other games, it doesn’t sound like I will enjoy it as much.

Metroid is all about a specific atmosphere-- it’s really the one thing you absolutely CAN’T change. When you do, you get games like Fusion, MP2, and Hunters.

wii owners go to the vc now!

For the preview channel? Got it already.

I thought the channel sucked because sometimes the movies froze. But the movies itself were awesome.

Why is it that you consider Super Metroid to be the definition of the Metroid series when the amount of games that adhere to that particular definition are in a minority?

Beyond that, I had a lot of fun with Prime, but if Retro made the same game again, I would be annoyed. You are unique in your opinion that the art style is bad, and the only thing that people seem to agree on is that the game is a departure from traditional Metroid. I, personally, am glad they’re making most of these changes, as most of them are for the better. Corruption has no multiplayer, epic music that’s really fitting for Metroid, fantastic control scheme and so on- what YOU seem to dislike is the lack of traditional atmosphere. The game will more than likely be very non-liniar and Retro will make an effort to give the different worlds you visit tons of atmosphere and creative puzzles- all the while adding a sophisticated sci-fi spin on the storyline. Metroid CAN pull that off, it’s very capable- and needed, if you ask me. Samus’s background has been obscure and impersonal, I’d like a few details filled in. Samus doesn’t have a character, and I think she should.

Granted, some elements of the game - from what we’ve seen - look stupid. Mainly, the other hunters. But I’m willing to ignore that if the rest of the game is up to par.
