**Build demo topic**

Where and when did it happen? You have to be more specific than that…

when a clicked a file to start it.

Ok. did you:

  • Extract it into its own file first?
  • Use the .exe provided and not the 7za.exe?
  • Have a Mac?

yes
yes
no

Download it again. If that doesn’t work you’ll have to consult Destroyer F as I have no idea why it shouldn’t work for you given the information you told me.

Sorry for this semi-double post. It’s because I have another bug update.

Ok, third run through, here’s the deal:

  1. When you scan any of the first two red switches, the trigger to activate the next three occurrs, thus enabling you to just run right through without scanning for the control pannel. (Update: It happens even if you scan the disabled triggers)

  2. Though rather minor, the original collision checking for the doors stays in place until it has fully opened.

  3. I opened up the door at the end of the queen room and a parasite walked through it, simply disappearing.

  4. I once got stuck in that awkward floor hole in the map room, however I have been unable to duplicate it.

  5. I once scanned the lower two triggers on the second barrier outside of the frigate. I’m not entirely sure how, but after scanning the top one I started scanning the lower one (which was basically finished on the progress bar). The lower one stayed at the complete progress point but never initiallized the scan. I have not yet been able to duplicate this event.

My newest glitch list.
A little bit more messing around with stuff

Nice discoveries, GL. Just a few things:

It originally didn’t do this, but if you ran into it while it opened, Samus would shake violently.

There are two known ways to do that in the latest demo (more in the last, but all the morph ball scanning glitches were removed).
Scan past the maximum scanning point while screw attacking. Or, scan a point to get a message to appear, press and hold the scanning button, face a scan point, wait until you expect the scan point has been scanned beyond its normal point, release the scan button, and try to scan it. The former is what happened to you.

As for the rest of your glitches… Some of them I didn’t bother to point out (like the intro–I just said it would need redoing), and others have been on my glitch list for a while or are on it now, but some weren’t found yet and are really neat. Nice job

In topics that are n pages or more, new pages don’t show up until there are 3 posts on the page. It’s just a weird InvisionFree problem, maybe just a server 3 problem.

Also, DF has a few updated versions in the build demo topic on SCU. There are no differences other than those “fatal” errors mostly fixed, so SD, you should check that out to see if it works.

Yeah, I figured it was already efficiently debugged before I even saw it :frowning: For humor’s sake, I’ll post the other gltiches I found that I forgot to mention.

  1. The scan for the debris incorrectly states that, “Although this debris is obstruction the hallway…” (Has this been discovered yet?)

  2. During aiming up while facing right a pixel on Samus’ thigh disappears (yeah, you found it already).

  3. During the ship’s floating animation, at the very bottom the center engine is clipped by a pixel.

  4. Ater reentering the first room, the ship’s animation ceases.

  5. After turning the first field off the roof is still there (yeah, you found it too, but I never mentioned it because I thought you were hitting the roof of that metal fixture).

Well, I debugged it for something to do, and as for experience, but it’s obvious that there’s already plenty of people who are doing that for this game, especially those with access to the code and whatnot. The fact that I never registered at SCU is also a problem (I actually found the hidden word but by then I forgot what to do with it, lol. And then I reasoned there was no point in registering anyway).

Edit: Oh yeah, how could I forget?

  1. The third scan on that series of connected rings in the first room is missing.

Actually, you posted your glitches here before I posted mine on SCU :stuck_out_tongue:. You found a whole lot of small things that weren’t found yet (and that nobody else found currently), so I say don’t give up the glitch-hunting. Just check in with the topic at SCU and my previous glitch list (if I haven’t been around to update it) before posting glitches you find.

And “those with access to the code and whatnot” would be only DF.

Oh… Oops… I think I confused that with the time you (easily) hacked into the player data and got into the “Phazon Mines lol” level. >_> Yeah, sorry about that.

FATAL ERROR in
action number 1
of Step Event
for object Loading_Engine:

Failed to initialize loading engine

Is that what happens immediately when you load the program, or when you are on the menu and start a game or use the options? If it’s the latter, it means you haven’t taken it out of its zip folder so it can’t access any of the external files.

Also, I believe DF said he removed that error from appearing in his updated EXE file (in the SCU build demo topic). Try using that.

um…yeah…it didn’t close with new one…have to restart damn computer.

i dont think im going to download these anymore until the demo is completed.

I almost feel the same way. I cant get it to work either.

External files? I though DF said no external files…
Anyways… I played the demo and my first thoughts:
Same old… then: OMGZERZ!!! ROXX3rZ MY B0><><erz!
The demo was amazing, and I have to say that I was impressed with DF’s demo. Not only was it amazing similar to it’s 3D part, it retains 2D action. Seeing the missiles bound to a key instead of a weapon also was pretty awsome. It was so complete that I was surprised when the Demo ended. GJ!

Thx
I plan to continue on it soon (more rooms), might release it in a few weeks.
I had to use external files, thanks to gamemakers high level of crappiness >_> No other way around it…

it works at first, then in the dead parasite room, the screen gets so dark i cant hardly see the game. Either that or at the end of that room the game goes black and freezes. I wanted to see the whole thing :frowning:

I tried the demo and i had no problem. My machine:
P4 2.54 GHz
256 MB RAM
Ati Radeon 9100 128MB

Great Demo!! I looked 4 bugs and here’s wut I found: zip, nada bupkis zilch!

There won’t be much to talk about until the next demo comes out, so…

Either the first part is your monitor or you have a very, very, very sucky graphics card.

Ok, you you’re telling me you have a fast processor, a 128 mb g card, and only 256 RAM? How can you even play any recent games like that?

Then you have failed as a beta tester. The bugs are abundant because this is still in it’s early stages.

And DF, I definately think you should fix the problems before even adding more rooms, because, now that I’ve spotted them, they become incessantly annoying while playing.
