Geez. Enough with the spam already.
Anyways, I just wanted to clarify things. When the next update/demo comes out can we expect an actual place from the original game or is going to be another random build demo. I’m simply asking so please don’t take it the wrong way.
Next demo will include:
first rooms of the space frigate
with secret etrance to the tallon world
turret enemy
energy system
scanning
fixed glitches and bugs
maybe more stuff? I dunno yet
so did you guys create a good health system yet, or is the health just for show so far?
Hey DF can you post the 2.03c demo here? Nice scan visor btw. The burger thing was a post to the hamburger that was the timebomb at the end.
The demo was great, you guys have been doing a great job. ![]()
There was one thing that bugged me though. The music was created in a MIDI program and you can tell, thats not a good thing. You guys should get some better quality music for the final build.
Of course I really have no idea what your plans are with the music, and if you are already in the works of recording better music(or planning on it) then just ignore me. If not I really think you should consider it… it would make your game so much better.
MIDIs will be the default background music in this game. If you have a problem with that, just get better MIDI synths ![]()
However, DF does have MP3 compatibility in the newest demo (or two). IIRC, stick your MP3’s in a folder called “music”, not sure about the capitalization, and rename them to “01.mp3”, “02.mp3”, etc. (once again not sure about the capitalization of .MP3, you’ll have to experiment). The numbers correspond to certain songs in the game, most likely in the order of Title Screen, Tallon Overworld, Escape, and Mission Final.
And also there is a planned version of P2D with the MIDIs recorded with very high-quality MIDI sounds, so you don’t have to go get them yourself. This is still mostly just an idea, but I see it being very possible.
Wow and he never told us about that? Meh feel left out
. Anyways MIDIs are easy to make if you are a neo-musician. Seeing how you could tell that they were MIDIs, I’m guessing more people like you would want .mp3 files. So how about a GUI? I doubt a couple of case…switch commands would be any problem in a menu and some command line arguments might make it easier than having the user make folders manually and stuff.
When you scan an object, the scan ray moves to the top left of the screen.
…um…am i mistaken? i didn’t know there was a scan ray yet. or is it to come? sorry, i didn’t get that
ahem…
bitmaps can be low space consumption AND good sounding… you just convert it to something like… 8000 hz and it will be alot less space consuming… just letting u know =P
Nice game, when I reached the time bomb, the clock ticked down, I looked back and said “Lol, hamburger.” and made my way back to the ship and beat the demo.
Here’s the latest demo: http://www.samus.co.uk/destroyer/mp2d_df_2-03c.zip
much better sprites! fixed most bugs, better layout.
a few glitches though…
directly shooting into door with missile will stop reload
colors for jumping are very wierd
jumping while going through a door is very odd, since you come out the door in air with jumping animation, not really a bug, just very odd…
the morphball bomb room needs work with collisions (upper jump ramps)
could be a number of new glitches involving scanning, depends on how it is coded, and if there is an order put on scanning…
I failed the mission ![]()
Ok, demo 2.4 is here: http://www.samus.co.uk/destroyer/mp2d_df_2-4.zip
But it has some major issues ![]()
Thanks to gamemaker being a piece of shit program, the demo takes up a whole lot of ram, about 150mb of ram on my pc… This causes lag and errors. I know what causes it, it’s all those cutscene images and other large images and backgrounds, they take up at least half of that ram ammount.
Anyway, I’ve stopped the normal progress on the demo, got to fix this memory problem first, and I already have an idea how to do it.
This will take some time to fix, that’s why I’ve released demo 2.4 now, so you guys can test the new features… It’s has some bugs and glitches, but I cannot continue debugging with all this lag and slowdown here on my pc.
This is so annoying, each time I make some progress, there are always new problems, thanks to gamemaker.
Gamemaker sux
FUCK! thx for bumping this cus i just noticed i said bitmaps instead of WAVs… if ur all confused, this is y XD
anyway, i’ll download the demo now… i’ll edit my post and tell u what i think.
EDIT
pretty good… the pirate cant fire in the opposate direction its facing though…
oh and the cooldown for bombs is a bit long. it slows alot when you switch rooms… i dont know why this is, though
I just played the demo. What’s with the barrier in the room with the parasite queen?? I cant get past it. Also, without lockon, those turrets are hell to fight. The pirates are cool, i just felt like they were verywell placed in the room. But other than that. Bravo, i just hope the full demo inspires you to continue.
Did you already fix “some” memory issues before releasing? because it only uses 60ish mb of ram on my computer. I do get a jolt of lag entering the last room, but other than that it works absolutely fine.
By the quality of the game itself, its dissapointing to hear how you feel about making the rest of the game. Do you think “the team” would consider releasing the gm6 source after the final demo IF there will be no more work done, in the interest of keeping it alive… ?
it wasn’t slow on my computer until last room, and then only for the changing rooms part…
also, i do believe gamemaker is good for testing what type of game you want to make, since it is MUCH quicker, in the end, i kinda view it as a good thing, just not for very large games…
it can make an engine (in the hands of even something that resembles a person who uses decent logic), however when you start to put all the sound and graphics in…well…i feel things get kinda slow…)
good luck with game anyways! ![]()
