Religion, Science... Beliefs ok?!

its keeps people from getting too worried about what happens when they die
“if you belive in this, you go to the world of happy fluffy bunnies”
its a control on society
much like law, but less enforcable
only by their will and mind set
fear, anger, sadness, happiness
everything under the sun

also putting a “youre a bad person you burn in hell”
yeah, makes it even more so a santa thing
santa gives you toys if your nice
coal if youre naughty

the most obvious control of your child’s behavior

same thing appiles to religion
its a control on how society behaves as a whole

also, im bad at wording things, so if anyone can do it better where i cant, please do =D

Nietsche can!
“Religion is the opiate of the masses.”

What the hell, this topic isn’t about disproving religion <_< It’s about discussing it.
But I’ll sign the agreement.

We don’t have proof. But we do have sufficient evidence toward the existence of God. People witness this kind of thing all the time. You just often don’t hear about it because certain people try to hide it, knowing that it is good supporting evidence of God’s existence.

A trustworthy and balanced source, surely.

a group of people in a war that were just shaken up by someonethey know being blow up by a grenade
obviously no psycological reason they’d be seeing things

Daz saw Death in his wallpaper when his girlfriend was sick. It looked more like a snail when she got better.
That story passed through at least 3 people on its way from the soldiers’ mouths. There’s so much wrong with it.

Also, last I checked, when you jump onto a hand grenade and hit the ground with your chest, you rarely are able to yell out prayers. Maybe we can write that off as a lack of personal experience though.

EDIT: http://www.onefamilyfund.org/memorial/Lebanon/Klein_Roi.pdf
3 seconds in google to prove it’s embellished/lying. Hurr fucking durr. Try harder next time.

so much for the thing xD

personally i wouldve tried to throw the grenade back
just to be a dick xD

Side note: I’m curious if DeProgrammer’s ever tried LSD. You should! You’ll see plenty of shit that isn’t real for a while.

LSD?
more like LOLSD
you’d see plenty of angels
maybe even elvis =D

That PDF says the exact same thing as the link I posted said about the first story, except without the “we saw an angel afterward” part. I have no idea what you’re thinking. And I gave a link to a ton of stories of miracles, not just one.

Well I’m a good source for my own personal experiences. (Aka, going through a car that should have killed me) >_>

Zurg hasn’t even explained his story, and I believe it more so than some random “factual” database on the Internet.

Personal experience and all that adds a lot of credibility to Zurg’s story. As far as I know, the guy that published those stories on that website has never even met the people he’s talking about.

EDIT: took me three edits to make this post what I wanted it to be. I suck at typing.

i remember when my mum hit a moose with her car
before we left i got in the back, she made me get in the front <_<

anyway, the moose
she swerved left and the mooses ass came up onto the hood and smashed into the glass in front of me
before closing my eyes and covering my face from impending glass shards i saw…
a moose
broken glass
and a BIG ASS in my face

CMC, why do make me laugh at what some consider a tragedy?

I lol’d at your story, in other words.

or my other fun time
went to get the mail and a truck is speeding down the road so fast it was on me before i could blink, me watching too many ninja movies tried to jump on the hood
this guy slams his brakes, my feet meet his hood
i end up in a BACK FLIP
heels hit the ground, then my back, then my head
what i saw…
car, sky, ground, car, sky, stars

guy was freakin the fuck out
thought he killed me

end result, i dont get the mail anymore
and am a LUCKY BASTARD

How do you go through a car? Quantum leap?
Regardless, “should have killed you” is a question for the engineers who made the car you were in and for the doctors who treated you. That you were emotionally shaken and glad to be alive is hardly a miracle.

Mason… let’s play Fact vs Fiction.
“was killed along with 7 other soldiers” vs “The grenade blew up killing him but sparing all of his soldiers from death.” + “none had life threatening wounds”
Yeah, he saved all of them except that almost half of them died. That’s a really crooked thing to say, and horribly disrespectful to the deceased.
“During the ambush, a hand grenade was thrown at the force” vs “Suddenly, someone tossed a hand grenade out of one of the windows above them”
Embellishment to make the story sound better…
“He remained alive long enough to recite the ‘Shma Yisrael’ prayer” vs “as it hit the ground, Klein … cried out shouting”
More lying to impress the audience.
“He remained alive long enough to recite the ?Shma Yisrael? prayer, and to instruct his communications man to radio back that he had been killed.” vs “called upon the living God and gave Him glory seconds before he died saving his comrades”
Implication that the grenade blast killed him instantly. Which is a lie, again.

Side note: No one proofread it (“Schema” is not the proper spelling of the Hebrew word, “He” is capitalized in reference to the Colonel and not God at one point, sentence 1 of paragraph 3 is poorly formed), so it’s safe to assume it wasn’t fact-checked either.

And not to be cliche, but I don’t eat shit-covered chocolate. I don’t care how many bullshit stories that site has, if it’s not trustworthy, it’s not trustworthy. Period.

There are only a few things I will say in this topic, because I know that if I post too much it will get out of hand.

For starters, I respect religious people; I simply just find it so illogical. If you run around rainbows waiting for fairies and pots of gold, you will be found as a complete lunatic, yet if you don’t believe that some God created you and the universe you live in, and don’t warship them, you are shunned by society. That’s hypocritical and illogical IMO.

Secondly, if God created the universe, then why is there so much scientific data that is constantly being found? I’m sure that God wouldn’t want to create something that would contradict the fact that he created humans and the universe, and a superior being would surely not make such a mistake.

Another thing is to simply make people feel better about other people dying. Personally, I think that the atheist way is more correct, and that people simply stop existence (well, their body is still there, but their actual body function stops working and their body decays). Saying that you relive after death is a nice feeling, but really, immortality would be a cruel thing, and it has caused tons of people to think that mistakes and bad choices will go away in an afterlife, when they really are stuck with everyone else.

Plus, religion has fueled things like racism, etc. I think that it in itself is bearable, but the madness it has caused is unbearable.

Plus, it does not matter if a person is homosexual or not - they can still contribute to society, whether it is in the form of babies or not. You don’t complain if a heterosexual dies and doesn’t have babies (by choice), but if a homosexual is not able to have babies, you complain? What is the problem?

Also, another thing - yes, humans as a species weren’t designed to uses the resources as they are currently. However, the fact that we do more in our lives than find food is astounding and makes us at a higher level of intelligence. Intelligence can be measured in several ways, resourcefulness being one of them, and recreation being another. If the human race can do both of those things, then it is very intelligent, and that is a good thing - why complain?

I really don’t care to explain the car thing, because quite frankly, it isn’t explainable.

One that is more so though:
I was like 7, and swam to the bottom of the pool (14 ft, mind you) I ran out of air going down, and as a last attempt pushed off the bottom. I made it about half-way, and couldn’t make it any further, and then I was pushed up to the surface, yet there was nobody even near me.

Write it off as whatever you want, but for me it’s a miracle.
