…it really matters that much?
anyways, its kinda cheap, since he can move as well in this one (in the others, if he could move, he could be hit anywhere, and when meta-ridley, he stayed still, except for prime, which had lock on.

pretty cool demo except a few things. its hard to jump from one place to another when there is something above you, maybe make the jumping speed faster horizontaly? and the riddly thing is realy hard lol.
Meta Ridley was only in Prime, so there’s no need for the “except in Prime” part, and as I just said, you CAN hit him anywhere. Only when his mouth is open, yes, but his whole body is vulnerable then.
Thanks for all the helpful replies, unfortunately I will not be able to work on this project for another 2 months or so and it will have to wait until my studies are finished for this semester. Anyone who has been following from the start will know that I WILL come back to it once I’m on holidays as I did at the end of last semester (which is also when I got most of the work done).
About the glitches:
I kind of ran out of time before releasing … I wanted to get it finished so I could concentrate on Uni, there were a few “oops I forgot to fix it”, such as morphing before completely charging the charge beam. They’re simple fixes which will definitely be gone by the next version.
For the collision detection glitches I have the same excuse, you might even say there are more Collision detection glitches than in the previous version. This is because I was doing a large modification in an attempt to fix slope coding, which I’ve nearly completed. You can walk up and down a slope with out any problems but if you land on a slope that is angled upwards you will get stuck. I spent a lot of time trying to fix it and only partially fixed it before I ran out of time. I removed the test slopes from the game before releasing but you can see the preliminary slope work when you walk over a vertical door on the bottom of the screen (such as in room 3). I will attempt to finish this properly for the next version … which I will start working on in a few months.
About Meta Ridley:
Yes he’s hard
, I did that on purpose. However he is MUCH easier in 1.3e … I have removed its Path based movement so it will now always move towards a position directly up and to the right of the player. I reduced his HP from 1500 to 1000. He can be killed in about 5-8 Super Missile Shots.
The reason I have not allowed him to be hit infinitely is because he would then be too easy (or I would have to raise his HP a LOT). Unlike any of the original games I have not put a fire delay on firing any missiles or beams, which means as soon as he appears you would be able to rapidfire 25 Super Missiles at him and kill him instantaneously. I opted out for the “timed weakness” method because I figured it would be safer to do without making him too easy. Naturally I got the other extreme.
I agree with what Troid is saying though, the level is rediculously large and the platforms serve as too much of a hinderence. But all of this feedback is helping me understand what I should do with the REAL Meta Ridley in the REAL Metroid Fan Game I make, once the Engine is finished. I believe I may actually attempt a more traditional SM Ridley (always vulnerable) in the next version, or the version after.
How many Energy Tanks/Super Missile Tanks do you guys collect before fighting Meta Ridley? I have a feeling that people barely find any of the items hidden in the game. There are 17 Tanks in total to collect.
As goes with any game, knowing a technique can help a LOT:
So, at risk of spoiling for anyone … this is the technique I use:
Collect:
When He Approaches Breathing Fire:
When he is moving without breathing Fire:
When he does a flyby “fire rain” Attack:
Thats pretty much how I do it. Since I made it myself its not fair to say that this was “obvious” or that it makes me any more skilled than you. In fact it says to me that maybe I should think about some sort of “subtle cues” that can hint the player on what to do in order to survive/win.
Anyway, I hope that clears it all up. As I said before I will be taking some time off to concentrate on studies. I literally have to resist the temptation to continue working on it because I know I will end up failing everything if I do. So I will definitely come back to it, just as I did before, and with it being the xmas holidays I will probably be able to get a lot more done. I expect to have the engine finished and have at least started work on a total new game with story/cinematics by the end of the year.
isn’t meta-ridley in metroid zero mission?..
hm…
anyways, i kept trying to hit him in only the mouth, so it helps, lol.
That would be Mecha Ridley.
And…
O_O
Can we have a map? <_<;;;
begins searching a little more
…so metal-ridley and meta-ridley are different?
MECHA RIDLEY dude…
k
Wow. How long is this demo?? I cant find any save stations. How long does it take to beat?? And how many save points are there?? I’ve gotten up to about the point where you get the super high jump.
And i think Mecha ridley was a really lame boss idea.
Ugh… the link is dead ;_; you might want to fix that.
The main link ran out of bandwidth really quickly because I posted it on the GMC.
Anyway, heres 2 new mirrors. If in doubt, rapidshare has infinite bandwidth.
FileUpYours2 - Metroid X 1.3e
Rapidshare - Metroid X 1.3e
Were you talking about ZM’s Mecha Ridley? or my Meta Ridley?
The save station is at the the door on the left after making your way up to the top of the green corridoors. You can also save using the save station you start in.
Theres really no “beating”, because theres no set end … just a point at which you can go no further.
But there is a boss to defeat, many abilities to collect and for the extremist there is 17 Tanks to collect.
If you have beaten the boss and found all the items then you could say you’ve “beaten” it. I estimate without revealing to you locations it could take a couple of hours, maybe more. For the record, no one has yet told me they have achieved 100% items in this demo or the last (same amount/locations), but I havent heard of anyone specifically setting out to find them either.
If you find 100% items, please let me know - how long it took you, how hard it was for you, and how fun/clever you thought the challenges were to getting them.
Found 'em all. I’ve always had only like 76%, but I just wasn’t backtracking enough and didn’t check inside any giant destructable areas. <_<
Most were fun/clever, some were tedious and dull. I’ve always found the ones just sitting around in rooms that you just have to figure out how to get to boring. Same with ones hidden just a little in walls. It’s much cooler to shinespark through space to connect two large areas, fly through a room you’ve been to a thousand times, blast through a wall, get a power up, then finally stop shinesparking in that direction and find yourself in a secret room… Or suddenly find something you’ve known for a while that can be completely blown away with a screw attack or power bomb, revealing a giant hidden path that intertwines with the area. Those are the cool secrets.
And it wasn’t too hard. You just have to be searching. I thought that by “17 tanks”, you meant energy tanks, and I only had four.
Personally, I really hated the Fusion tank where you had to run all of the way up that series of platforms while using the speed booster and then stop and get on the next one. The first time around it took me forever, and then the next time I gave up on it, lol. Just don’t include that ![]()
Yeah, try not to make too many hard/not fun to obtain powerups.
meh, most were so-so
i think it would be cool if new powerups came with new areas and stuff (secret rooms), and maybe found accidentally (if you kept on doing something in an area like shinesparking, and there is a shinespark wall that led to a room that connected to another room, with a lava place and such, it would be cool, since you might discover that by accident, it wouldn’t be part of normal tedious “find-everything-perfection-at-end-of-game”, it would be a secret you found out, and were hesitant when going into the area.
basically, try and avoid the tedious searching, and make it interesting, like blowing up glass, or knocking down a shaky bridge to find a totally new area (such as above an area before you went to, and saw the powerup but couldn’t get to it).
…blowing things up is fun…
I tested that with this machine:
P4 2.54 GHz;
256 MB RAM;
ATI Radeon 9100 128 MB.
No Problem for me.
The link is dead
it’s only been half a year. >.>
… I was expecting an update from Tenka but insted I find a n00b saying,
“the link is ded…”. WTF is with n00bs bumping topics all the time?! It’s
getting all my nerves. If you want to play Metroid X then PM Tenka.
Don’t make everyone think there is an update with the game just to find
out it’s a bump, and a useless one a that.
