Metroid Fusion--> 3-D

i dind’t understood what are you talking about, could you simplify?

and IMHO i think fusion a good name, samus “fusioned” with the metroid, she now have chozo AND metroid DNA, and i hope they make other game after fusion, like he find a sister of hers (while searching for another power suit), that have been picked up by another group of chozos or such, but, as i said, this is only my humble opinion…

PS: in that Kraid photo… he don’t have legs…

The problem with shinesparking in 3-D is the speed-boosting forward part. In a first-person perspective, you’d have to go at least 3-4 times your original speed in order to make it seem like you’re not just picking up your jog a little. Not only are there no areas in the 3-D games we’re used to with a straight line long enough to have a nice speed-boost, but also that means the collision algorithms need to be able to handle Samus flying into detailed shapes at 3-4 times the speed, and where would you shinespark to once you get to the end anyway?

The level design would have to be dramatically messed with to make use of the speedboost/shinespark. It’d be worse than screw attack in MP2, where you get it near the end of the game and hardly use it, and when you do have to use it for something, the “puzzle” just shouts that you should use the screw attack. Puzzles are hardly fun when they tell you the answer initially.

Things like these should stay in 2-D only, where you are always running in a straight line, and spin-jump with nearly every jump. Much easier to work with, much more natural.

So am I saying Metroid Fusion in 3-D wouldn’t work? Not at all. Those upgrades can be replaced with similar upgrades that work better in 3-D. Just brainstorm. A Metroid Fusion “retelling” in 3-D kind of like Metroid 1 → Zero Mission would be pretty nice if it doesn’t just copy and paste the upgrades over without any alterations to match the new gameplay style.

i don’t think the upgrades must be replaced, but converted to 3d, the shinespark can be slowed, i too think that if the make you run 3~4 times faster you can’t even see what is happening in the screen (take jedi knight: outcast/jedi academy in the force speed, it was horrible) but if you only 1,5 ~ 2 times faster, you can handle, or even less, in a 3d game you don’t need all that speed. About the collision algorithms, i think nintendo is more than capable of doing that, and easily…

and please bear with me, i don’t have a gamecube, and never played neither of the MPs
but i have some experience with FPSs and i don’t think this is so dificult, peraphs i am wrong, i will try to collect some more data ^_~V

One way you could improve on the 3D shinespark would be to limit the angle to, lets say 35 degrees. Wow. Now it’s number of uses has plummeted considerably, while adding some degree of challenge. Available targets will be highlighted in green, unavailable targets in red, like the scan visor in MP2. To activate, hold the jump button for 5 seconds straight without touching anything else. Oh, and one more thing, gravity applies. Now it looks alot like valve’s ‘Portal’. Instead of a rocket blast, it could be added to the game as a second pair of jump boots, in place of the screw attack, which was way out of it’s realm in MP2. You could also add ammo if you really feel like it. Because of the previously added limitation of 35 degrees, the speed boost would also be totally obsolete. Like the screw attack, it would be found rather late in the game, but be absolutely essential for collecting powerups, which the screw attack definitely was not. For the actual animation, first you would switch to a scan visor like view. You would find your target. After you pick it, the screen flashes white three times. The camera moves to a spot exactly halfway between you and the target, and ten feet away in a random direction from your path. You crouch down, start to glow like a powerbomb (maybe using one…), and jump. Then, the camera follows your exact position until you land. Meanwhile, you destroy weaker blocks/rocks when you touch them. Back to first-person.

ugh, this would srew the shinespark, i think losing health is already too much to use it (like in Super Metroid) with all these restrictions, the shinespark would be useless…

PS: if we don’t get on topic again (fusion 3D) i think the mods will lock this up ^^’

We are on topic.

Anyway, for shinesparking to work, I was think more along the lines of just crouching somehow (holding a button), waiting a few seconds, watching the camera go third-person, and then shinesparking maybe 20 feet in any direction you choose, allowing you to adjust your aim as you go but being affected by gravity (similar to the feeling of a paper airplane, only faster). That way you can do it anywhere and it makes you use your skills.

Of course, this opens up a huge amount of SWs and SBs, so we know Retro will never do this, plus it’d work a whole lot better in a 3rd-person 3-D Metroid. But if there ever would be a 3-D Fusion, it should work more like that. The speedbooster itself would just be the boost ball, maybe with similar properties to the original speedbooster.

yes perhaps a 3rd person shooter would be more likely than a 1st person shoter if there was a 3D fusion and the speedbooster could work like the dashing to build up speed thingamabob from super M but i am more worried about the large no. of corrdors that would be present

Ugh. Third person Metroid Prime gameplay seems like it would really suck and I can’t even quantify why.

Retro must agree though, since Prime started third person and even its creators hated it enough to change.

is nobody else worried about the holy grail of what fusion was for the gba?

holy grail? this is sarcasm?

they, actualy destroyed the game and the story, only if they made samus find another power suit, and… and if they do this… there is the whole thing about samus being chased by the GF, i don’t think they made Zero mission because they wanted to make a remake for us, mortals, is only because they can’t think of something to continue the storyline, see MP is before supermetroid, even prime isn’t a sequel, so, i don’t think fusion was a “holy grail”.

the game is good, yes, but it messed up the whole storyline of metroid…

PS: man, i need to shorten up my posts, i was going to post only the first phrase… :O_O:

My thoughts exactly,I too think that Metroid Fusion ruined the storyline…
No more power suit, and again you destroy all the metroids…

eh? :O_O: have none of you played Star Wars: Battlefront II? or even just Battlefront?

agreed, i prefer the third person view of battlefront to the first person, and, if you don’t know, in the start of Playstation (when Sony and Nintendo was together) they planed to make a 3? person view metroid, but then, sony and nintendo broke the coperative work and we needed to wait 8 years for another metroid, but i think that, back then, the would be another Tomb raider like game… Ugh…

nonetheless, the trird person view games nowdays are very good, i would love to see samus from a back camera that shows her… okay forget that XD

stares blankly at kesvalk

wered

ermm… i said… forget…

i mean, a back camera that shows her “body”, the body, in a first person view you only the visor, i want to the whole motion…

i dind’t mean her butt, you pervert…

sigh

i have lost all respect of you guys…

wha…? i really mean that i don’t said her butt! i like third person view because you can see all the movements of the hero!!!

oh man, what have i done… now i am child molester too?

ahem… back on topic:

i think that the view dosen’t matter, a metroid game is a good game 2D, 3D, FPS, TPS, well, don’t strip her from her suit again, and everthing will be fine

about the SR388, i loved the idea of seeing the monsters in something like rooms, with their prefered habitat and such, you can even make a change in the scenario, like, there is a corridor, and in the corridor you see various rooms with that animals with caves and their nests and everthing, like a zoo, and some of these rooms have cracks, then you can enter the room and you discover a secret passeway, that the way you move around the place, like in TRO sector, whre the actual lab is very small, but the secret rooms is more than half the whole place…

it would be soo cool…

and make SA-X a variable, like, you can turn a corner and you see her searching the place, then you need to hide, she goes about her business, then you go to another sector, and you open a door and she is on the other side of the door, you never know where she is, it makes you go crazy with the sensation that you will encounter her in every corner of the game, and as the game progress these encounters becomes more frequent, because the SA-X is multypling (i spelled right?)

this would be dificult to do as the variables must be perfect, so you can’t encounter her at every 5 seconds, and you need to have ways to run from her more easily, but if made correctly, man this would scare you to death… it would be cool

(the sigh was at saying fusion sucked)

how can you even use the sa-x or support this idea if fusion sucked? your changing the view, not the overall story, which was frickin awesome by the way, mainly because of the sa-x and creepiness (ahem…also, you might want to look up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemesis_(Resident_Evil) ).

how can you say a game’s story and atmosphere sucked if you support a remake, that will not only be worse, but will have to hold the same base content?

well, they changed the story of MZM a bit, i don’t said to put samus back in the power suit, this was for the sequels…

i liked the story of fusion, but it screwed up the metroid storyline.

it took a dramatic turn in the storyline, i dont know about you guys, but rather than go to the same areas doing the same stuff, i would like to see some new stuff…

…and also, she basically does still have a powersuit man…

…no…really…she totally does…

wait…was that meant at fusion…?

…meh…
