There’s something about metal that intrigues me. I don’t enjoy any metal music really, but the way it all sort of fits together, and the violent archaic sort of imagery involved I find somewhat endearing. It’s not that it’s generic, but I feel that metal music all has a sort of a familiarity, which, I think, is what lends it so well to the spirit of togetherness that metalheads share.

This post wins whether or not you assume it carries a sarcastic tone as you read it.

That’s… the only way I could read the part about familiarity. “Metal” can mean anything from NWOBHM to Black Metal, which are as different as two genres CAN be, really, so describing it like one genre makes no sense.

WAKE UP IN THE MORNING FEELIN’ LIKE DER FUHRER
WRITE MEIN KAMPF, TELL GERMANY I’M GONNA MAKE RACE PURER
BEFORE I LEAVE, FUCK MY NIECE, WITH EVA BRAUN TOO
CUZ WHEN I LEAVE FOR MEIN RICH, I’M GONNA KILL SOME JEWS

I’M TALKIN
TAKIN OFF ALL THEIR CLOTHES CLOTHES
GASSIN’ THEM TILL THEY CHOKE CHOKE
THROWIN 'EM IN SOME STOVES STOVES

GOOSE STEPPIN
RIGHT INTO ALL YOUR CITIES
SPREADIN THE NAZI PARTY
TRYIN TO TAKE OVER YOUR COUNTRRYYY

DONT STOP, MAKE EM DROP
NAZIS BLOW YOUR CITIES UP
TONIGHT, THEY GONNA FIGHT
TIL YOU GIVE INTO THE REICH

That sir, is pure peacefulness. I feel more serene already.

It wasn’t sarcastic, actually.
072, I don’t mean just musically but the way all metal is sort of D&D scenario themed.

As an example, I bring you the three most difficult songs in Rock Band, for drums.

You can’t confuse the songs musically. But they all have the exact same mood. That’s what I mean by familiarity. The way all metal aims directly at your adrenaline gland (in a way that’s distinct from rock or modern hip hop)

In those examples, sure, I’ll concede that they have similar moods, but ALL metal is certainly not that way. Would you say this other JP song has the same mood you are describing? Or this Opeth song? Well Opeth is known to be genre-defying but still

I’d argue that the JP song is regular-ass rock, not metal, but yes, I do get that same epic feeling from the Opeth song <_< (though I see your point about the lyrics being more “lols party!” than “THE KRAKEN ATE SATAN”)

PS I’m sure there are exceptions to the rule, but I feel like that feeling of the genre is one of the key points to its popularity, and the reason why metal is distinct from rock.

The Opeth song is dark and depressing, but I’d say my adrenaline is the last thing that would be affected by it… even during the death stuff in the middle, it is very mellow.

rofl the kraken ate satan

EDIT: Even funnier out of context.

Alright, we’ll call that song an exception :stuck_out_tongue:
Do you see my point though, at least?

Also woot, sig :E

Well I know it’s something commonly associated with metal, and maybe all mainstream metal (oxymoron?) is that way. But the exceptions to the rules are the only songs of ANY genre that I like. I’ve had people comment on how weird is was that I listen to metal, considering the type of person I am, thinking that metal is all about headbanging and being angry at the world. :stuck_out_tongue:

By the way, how ironic is it that this, of all topics, would spark a discussion? I need to reevaluate everything I thought I knew. :<
