OS "Discussion"

Aww :<
Pirate a new keyboard with atomtorrent

Also, the buttons would be odd, and I don’t know how they would signal to the computer. Apple where the alt button is, and alt/option where the windows key is… but it’d probably work out all right.

It does work fine… except the F13-F19 keys.

Shouldn’t f13-f15 be Print Screen, Scroll Lock, and Pause?

SHOULD, but they ain’t…

but the other buttons work right? <_<
odd…

Oh hai. Posting from Vista.

Okay, now that it’s working online and I can upgrade shit and stuff, it’s not that bad. I still prefer Ubuntu, but at least this can run Team Fortress and Spore properly. <_<

Hi vista.
Vanilla vista was pretty crap, it was rushed, but windows update fixed it all <3
(TBH, I prefer Kubutu (KDE, woo) to vista, especially with compiz enabled, but I’m a gamer at heart, so I use Vista. Much nicer than smelly XP, anyway :stuck_out_tongue:)

For those of who who don’t follow the legal path, more or less, on the internet you could always download “LastXP” its like WindowsXP ate Vista and took some anti-acid. Its a beautiful OS. Its from a team of people that modified WindowsXP to not have all the legalities holding it back.

You’re not going to find a website for it, just google it if your interested?

It’s a nice idea, but the main drawback of these things is you don’t get updates from MS. If MS allowed you to do stuff like that… :<

LastXP does update. Often.
Given the downloads aren’t automatic, but they include valuable security patches.
Most updates from Microsoft are useless. Even the upgrade to SP3 didn’t have anything critical. I’m still using SP2… Next time my PC crashes, I’m switching to LastXP.

Oh, in that case, that’s pretty good.
They should get it auto, I’m sure they could rig something up.

I might try it in a VM, I love messing around with OSes like that. (Not Linux though, they take too damn much setup to mess with ;_:wink:

(For example, I spent an hour and a half yesterday trying to make my XPvm run as quickly as possible on 128MB of RAM.
Woo, it was actually pretty speedy.)

…Aaaand I’m back on the Linux, because Vista went kablooie. Goddammit.

:frowning:
Try inserting your install disk, you can run anything from a system restore to a command prompt to an auto-bootloader fixer from it.

Well… Infinity’s End, thank you for suggesting lastXP. I installed it and I love it. However, I put the ram monitor on my gadget bar, and it made me realize just how much I need more ram. 512 doesn’t so much cut it.
It could just be my imagination, but everything from explorer to firefox seems to run faster than it did on XP.

LastXP is great, it’s just all around more stable than WindowsXP.
I also need new RAM, but my PC was made in the last days of DDR1, which for some reason is more expensive than DDR2, despite being the older tech.

FOR FUCK’S SAKE

The Linux died.

I really, really miss the simple days of XP. ;_;

Ok, the whole update process for it has me completely fucked up, though. I burned the ISO and everything, but NO ONE talks about what to do AFTER that. I mean… I’m assuming they have an update process that doesn’t require completely reinstalling the OS, but that, so far, seems like the only option I find anywhere >_<
When I boot… I get all of the boot tools, and the option to install. When I go to the install option, I have, like, “leave file system intact” “delete partition…” stuff like that. No repair option or anything… =/ and no one else seems to be confused. Am I just completely ignorant to something, or… what?

Daz, if you have a computer with downloading and ISO burning capabilities, I’d try for lastxp =D
Even if my other installation was entirely legal, I’d still switch to this one… I love it a lot.
